Performance Teaser: Under Armour Spine Bionic

Bingo.

I think some may not fully understand what a First Impression is… I’d love to explain it to the few that don’t get it but I just don’t have the time to do what our school system should have already done…

The traction worried me. I mean… it’s surrounded by foam. If that alone doesn’t send red flags through your brainwaves then let me give you an analogy. If you were on a solid rock… the best, most solid rock in the entire world, but surrounded by molten lava… you’d be screwed. Hence me worrying about the awesomeness that is herringbone being surrounded by foam.

Now, my worries were actually put to rest as the traction was freaking wicked. Wicked meaning good, not wicked meaning bad. The foam actually helped out as well, not that the traction surface required it, as its pretty sticky foam… I assume that’s due to the paint used but I could be wrong. Just in case you are new to my personal likes and dislikes on hoop shoes… solid traction is what I require above all else. I need to feel secure when moving and be comfortable making any move I desire and in order to do that; I NEED good traction. These took care of me very well.

One thing I’m not too keen on is their potential life span. My left shoe still looks decent but I obviously drag my right toe… This is just after a few hours and it was on an indoor floor. Give me a few hours with these outdoors and I may need a new pair by the end of the day. This is where a solid rubber toe cap would come in handy. It’s something small & minor but if I continue to drag my toe I don’t know how long this foam will stay intact. It’s not a huge issue but one that should be noted as I’m sure there are plenty of players who play more aggressively than I do.

Just for your piece of mind, my initial thoughts about the upper not being supportive enough was proven wrong. The only thing I don’t like is the hard toe… those of you who have played in the LeBron 9 know what type of pain that shoes toe brought to us with certain movements… this shoe is no different. This material is strong as hell though so take it for what it is.

Was I unimpressed with the shoe in my initial First Impression… yes; they didn’t ‘Wow’ me. Was I impressed after playing in them… oh yeah…

  1. thanks for the heads up. I have a major concern, are your hard toes alright or have they turned purple? that what worries me as well. otherwise, too bad since I was liking these initially.

    1. Mine have not turned purple, that usually happens with runners. I cant remember the reason behind it though… either its bc they have too much room so the toe slides or they have too little and get jams. My shoes always fit me with little room and I never had the purple though so it may be if you get them with too much space.

      1. thanks. atleast that’s reassuring. I have no explanation for it either. I always get the right fit or get half an inch if the shoe felt narrow. for some reason, certain shoes are killing my hard toes. like the Lebron 9’s and Adidas Shadow and Rose 2 which I had to return and made me hate those models. kinda weird. but anyway, hoping this shoe would be fine. love the design and looks very light.

  2. Now I can say it! I agree, had the same first impression, but now I have played in them for over a week, and I like them better and better… 🙂 looking forward to the full review!!! 😀

      1. Seems to be… And the ankle support is in my opinion just
awsome… My leg is gonna break before my ankle do 😛 hehe

    1. did you really ask dat question i mean do u watch his videos or do you even see the kicksoncourt list…dumb question (jus sayin)

  3. I say it with most of my posts and I’ll say it again, thanks for all the work. I just got mine in the mail today (Black/White). I haven’t played in them yet but they seem OK. After reading the First Impression, I was a little nervous but of course it’s performance that matters and this gives me something to look forward to.

  4. Any idea how to alleviate the hard toe on sneakers? I get really annoyed at my Lebron 8 PS’s for the same reason the toe kills me after extended use even with casual wear.

  5. This is music to my ears!

I rly wanna pick up these shoes b/c I love the looks, cw, and micro g foam. So I hope it performs well.

  6. I wanted to like it but the comfort just isn’t there. I have to return them. The Torches have spoiled me. Everything else is pretty good in my opinion (the fit could be better) but the comfort is just a problem for me. I’m still looking forward to seeing how they stack up in Nightwing’s performance review though.
