PENSOLE Footwear Design Academy is going global. Yesterday, the academy announced that it will be running four separate one-week footwear design immersion classes — called Kicks Kamp — across Europe, Asia, and Canada.

“For the past few years, we have experienced incredible demand for our footwear design courses in Europe, Asia and Canada,” said PENSOLE founder D’Wayne Edwards in a statement. “But it hasn’t always been possible for talented designers to make the trip to PENSOLE in Portland. It has always been my dream to provide this opportunity the best aspiring designers around the globe, and Kicks Kamp will be an important step in making that happen.”

To supply the demand, Kicks Kamp classes will pop up in Shanghai, Guimaraes, Toronto, and at PENSOLE in Portland. Here is the schedule of programs:

  • China Kicks Kamp (footwear only): June 12 — June 18 in Shanghai, China. Deadline to register: May 21.
  • Portugal Kicks Kamp (footwear and color/materials): June 26 — July 2 in Guimaraes, Portugal. Deadline to register: May 28
  • Canada Kicks Kamp: (footwear only): July 10 — July 16 in Toronto
  • U.S. Kicks Kamp (footwear and color/materials): July 21 — July 28 in Portland at PENSOLE

Interestingly, to apply for Kicks Kamp prospective students must submit one hand-drawn sketch (lateral or outside view) of an original footwear design in black and white or color on paper. No digital sketches will be accepted.

According to PENSOLE, all applicants must be 18 years of age or older and students are not required to be residents of the country in which the Kicks Kamp is being held to attend. All applicants must be able to spreak and write English fluently.
