A Nike Zoom Flight 96 Olympic Retro for 2016

The Internets have been waiting for a Nike Zoom Flight 96 Olympic retro. Thankfully, it’s almost here.

As Ray P so poignantly stated, this shoe is “one of the hottest shoes Penny Hardaway ever laced up.” Back from the 1996, perhaps Penny’s best year in the NBA, he won a Gold Medal wearing the original version of this shoe. Of course, it didn’t have the icy blue outsole, but we’ll let that slide.

Releasing just in time for the Rio Games, the date to mark in your calendars is July 7. Check up on your local boutiques and the usual ones like Sneaker Politics, Shoe Gallery, Packer Shoes, etc. if you’re trying to cop. There is no word yet on price.

Are you happy this Olympic classic is back? Sound off below.

  1. If the pricing is right, even I Mr. Nike hater himself, am planning on copping these. This is a BASKETBALL shoe that looks good, something that Nike seems to not be able to do anymore.

  2. These need so much breaking in its ridiculous, you know how u break in a baseball glove with oil and a glove mallet, I’m very tempted to do the same with these. I bought the white/grey colorway and I’ve been trying to break them in for the longest time and I finally gave up!! Most newer Nike hoop shoes are ready to hoop out of the box because of the new material, these are just stuff and not just the upper but the outsole as well, it’s like hooping with two wooden boards underneath you!

    1. The most recent retros with the white, gray, and carbon fiber have no zoom in the forefoot. The ones I had that released in 2008/2009 did and felt amazing, idk why they eliminated em, they are hard as rock now.

  3. From the pictures above the leather looks extremely nice! I hope because of the leather used on this colorway instead of the nubuck on others that these will break in alot easier. I am a huge fan of raw materials. Nike has been doing a decent job with some of their retros not in relation to Jordan brand. Can’t wait for the release! All the best!

    1. Lol. Back in the day, they made them right. Sucks that retros don’t get good quality materials.

    2. Wait they took all the zoom out of this shoe? Everyone and their mother is laughing at Nike right now…

      1. they retro last year and i really want to cop them,
until i saw rightwing’s video on them.
        Heel zoom only.
        sigh…

      2. I have emailed Nike about the technology used in the 2016 version. Nike Europe answered me that these have the same technology as the OG version. At least they confirmed me there is used Zoom and Air as well.

  4. Nike had to take the zoom out of the forefoot so my generation who doesn’t know any better (unless they subscribe to something like weartesters) can justify the price they pay now for less tech. The Melo M12 doesn’t have two zoom bags at $135, so why should these? smh.

  5. I just had to pick up some of these. Now at $80 I didn’t care if they had full zoom or not. I had the black ones in junior high and remember them being so comfortable with thick full zoom. Being a penny fan these are nice with the 6 on back. I can tell you it definitely feels like there is zoom full length now. It’s not thick in the forefoot like a penny or Jordan or jumpman but it’s there. Some don’t like the looks but it’s a memorable style from my prime basketball shoe days.

      1. Thats cool. Well everyone doesnt believe it has full zoom so nobody is buying them. $80 now for 2 zoom pocket shoes is a hell of a deal. Theyve lost trust. And maybe the zoom is the same as the 90s, its been a long time, alot feels different in 20 years. I cant tell unless i had a pair of 90s here too. Theres some og ones for sale for $40 in my city but its not worth it.

  6. For what I have read on all reviews from buyers and more reading is that 2 models released in 2014 only had the heel zoom. I can’t compare but the 2016 Olympics I own are a dream to wear. No hardness in the toe area. The Nike specs tell there is a full lenght zoom. I got them for 75 euros an that’s a nice deal.
