A Look Into the Nike Mag Experience in NYC

nike mag experience NYC 7

On October 4, Nike announced that it would be releasing the Nike Mag from Back to the Future II through a raffle system to raise money for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. From October 5-7, Nike gave sneaker fans the chance to see the Nike Mag self-lacing magic work.

The Nike Mag Experience was held at the Nike+ Clubhouse at 45 Grand in NYC. Once in the gallery, three glass display boxes told the story of how the Nike Mag came to be.

The first glass display box, a couple of prototype drawings were displayed that detailed what the architect, Tinker Hatfield, wanted the shoe to look like. The second box displayed a stripped down version of the shoe that showed the electrical wiring that went into the midsole to help light the shoes up. The last box housed the 2016 Nike Mag with the laces loosened.

In addition to the gallery, a Nike employee gave a brief presentation and talked to attendants about the history and progression of the Nike Mag. One lucky person (sad to say it was not me) got the chance to try on the Nike Mag in a private room and experience the adaptive lacing technology and cushion of the shoe.

Raffle tickets are being sold at $10 a ticket and the proceeds will go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation to help find a cure for Parkinson’s disease. If you would like to purchase raffle tickets, then click here.
