Nike Kobe 8 SYSTEM Elite Review and Comparison

I meant to post this yesterday but I forgot.

After the jump you’ll be able to see what the Nike Kobe 8 SYSTEM Elite is all about along with a minor comparison to the original Kobe 8 SYSTEM.

Yes, a performance review will be coming – hopefully on the LeBron X Elite as well – soon so be patient and stay tuned. I want to get the adidas Crazyquick done first if possible but we’ll see how that goes.

  1. Much respect. I don’t know how you manage to do all of this and work and be a family man. But the hard work is paying off with a following that’s literally around the world and people who don’t even make purchases without your approval. Even companies are starting to take notice. Congrats man and thanks again.

  2. Trezz hit the nail on the head, I can sure as hell say that, I haven’t made one purchase on a shoe that hasn’t been reviewed by you and your team.

Tons of work and there’s no way you can do all the shoes that come out, hell they’d have to start paying you for that, so you could quit your job and be a shoe reviewer full time 🙂 ps if that happen

I PLANTED THE SEED PEOPLE size 12 of every other shoe for life thanks in advance Jesus Shuttlesworth jr.

  3. Just chiming in to agree with the above posters. I wouldn’t buy any hoop shoes without your input, via your reviews. Thank a lot bro for the great job!

  4. Why the change in the midsole material? The padding, which it needed, added weight. Both are quite ugly colorways. Free? That’s why you went 9.5 or only ones in stock? My IDs still look the best. I like the elite blacks and the blue regulars.

  5. Just like everybody else is saying you are doing a great job. I refuse to buy a shoe before I see your review. Really appreciate it man. The best part is that you actually respond to your “fans” on a regular basis. Thanks again dude! Can’t wait for the crazyquick review.

  6. why does the elite version do away with the lunarlon midsole? personally, i like the feel of lunarlon over forefoot/heel zoom, top or bottom loaded. it feels better, doesn’t hurt my knees, and disperses impact much better than cushlon/phylon + zoom.

  7. Does this make the Kobe 8 the lightest basketball shoe on the market currently? I know the Crazy Light 2 is supposed to by 9.5 oz and I can’t really think of anything lighter

  8. thanx nightwing that was a great review and comparison.. by the way are you gonna Nike Lebron X elite review and comparison aswell?

  9. Very detailed overview. I liked the weight comparison with and without the cushioning systems; that was very insightful.
I wonder if the laces on the elite are completely kevlar, or if just a few strands are woven in.

  10. thanks nightwing for your insightful reviews! your reviews helped me a lot in getting basketball kicks. im thinking of getting these next but do these still come with lunarlon inserts? or did they jsut change it to zoom altogether? oh and im from Indonesia btw lol

  11. hi nightwing,
can you please do performance review or at least a comparison between the lebron X and the lebron X elite ?
now i use lebron X and i want to get the elite
but still can’t decide which one to get.
initially i wanted the white gold CW but i noticed the sole is translucent, will this model give me issues on traction as i will be using them strictly on gym for playing only?
and also i heard that the nike+ version’s midsole are a little bit harder due to the hard plastic chip and sensors underneath the insole, is this true as well ?

if all of that are true, then i might get the normal elite ID though it will me more expensive 🙁

one last thing is that true that the sizing on nike ID are different then the general release version ?
they say the IDs are half size bigger ?

i wear 11 on my black red general release Lebron X should i get the same size for the elite ?

    thank you, awesome website.

  12. man i really think you should have a class in school about sneakerology 😀 id never skip class when its about kicks and bball¬!

  13. First of all may I commend you on this site and the reviews you do!
Can you tell me more about the fit and cushion of these once you have played in them more? I normally wear a size 11…tried on a pair size 11 & it seemed roomy across the fore foot, even though my toe does touch the end of shoe. (The Store I went to didnt’t have a 10.5 availble so couldnt make a comparison of sizes).
Also, whats the cushioning like after more playing time? I Currently play in Hyperdunks 2012 & these are really soft/comfortable and seemed to get better once broken in. Should I expect the same from the Kobe 8 elite once they are broken in? Seem to recall you saying zoom cushioning lasts longer?

    Cheers!
