Nike Hyperflight Retro

The Nike Hyperflight will be making a Retro run this year – March 29th is the rumored release date – and I couldn’t be happier.

I’ve always wanted a pair as a kid and now I’ll have my chance to not only own a pair but play in a pair as well. I remember watching Jason Williams break ankles and drop jaws while playing in Sacramento wearing the solid purple pair – the pair I REALLY wanted.

What do you guys think about the Hyperflight’s return?

  1. Not loving the prints yet, but again with such a flexible canvas who knows what they will put on them, 0.0 on the ventilation, hello sweaty feet.

  2. Beautiful basketball shoes but horrible in functionality. I had the white and silver pair back in the day and I remember how bad it was to hoop in them lol.

  3. All I wanna know is are they going to full length zoom or are they going to skimp on the cushioning like they do nowadays? I can deal with the creasing, but I am going to be highly upset if I order these and the zoom isn’t there

  4. I am looking forward to these. I remember first getting back into shoes after my first year out of High School, there were colors of these on clearance racks & dirt cheap on ebay. It was the odd colors, but its kinda funny to see them coming back. I like the renders of the LeBron, Kobe, & KD print pairs.

  5. Pictures of the Hero Pack (KD, Lebron, and Kobe) were released during all-star weekend. The pics are up on N-SB.org. I like the prints on those better but his pair is nice too. Can’t wait for these to release.

  6. Always loved the look of the Hyperflight. Not so great for playing ball though. Wish they would make a performance inspired pseudo-retro of these. Keep the clean look of the shoe but improve the fit, support, traction, ventilation, and cushioning. That would be great.

  7. I too remember J-Will rocking these and wanted a pair as well! If only I could find my Champion youth sized #55 jersey…

To me, these memories are the best part of retro sneakers

  8. I cant believe nike is doing this. anything to make a buck. one of the worst performing basketball shoes ever. an injury waiting to happen. not even suitable for casual wear

  9. i just seen these on the release calendar yesterday at footlocker idk what colorways but im excited for the performance review

  10. I used to work for Niketown NYC when these dropped. We had a plethora of colors. At the time I was a product tester and I absolutely hated this shoe. Its like a minimalist basketball ball shoe. The Zoom units didn’t feel big enough, they were very light, but even with a faux monkey paw on the medial side, they had little to no real support. The look good in the box, but as soon as you take a step they crease up like nobody’s business. You may have to go down a 1/2 size to get the appropriate lockdown. At the time I weighed 145lbs, I couldn’t understand how an NBA guard could wear these. I remember Marcus Camby wearing these while he was with the Knicks, he was soon on the injured list. Coincidence? Wear with care.

  11. So pumped for this release! These were #1 on my most wanted list all through junior high and high school. I’ve heard that they aren’t great performers but that doesn’t even matter to me at this point.

    1. I have a pair right in front of me! I’d love for the Ultraflights to be retroed (hopefully retain the Zoom cushioning) so I can retire my OGs. I occasionally play ball in them and I’d hate if they succumbed to the fate of my Huarache 2K4s (the glue gave out in the middle of a playoff game).

      1. @D.Cole
wow …after all this year the glue still intact?
ultraflight chassis is the predecessor of sprintframe:)

  12. Be careful with these man. They look great but weren’t really great performers. I think the zoom was full length but I barely felt any of it. Traction was alright, a little slick but passable. Fit and support were the worst things about it. My foot would not stay in place when playing in these.

  13. Yo Nightwing….stop looking forward to these. The OG was the tipsiest, least supportive shoe ever made for basketball. The cushioning was beyond horrible. Stability is the WOAT. Materials were cheap as fuck. I can only imagine with nikes corner cutting over recnt years in the retro department just how awful these will be. Id suggest performance testing these if you want to take about 6 months off reviewing other shoes due to injury. The fact that they had to come up with lebron, kobe and durant colorways to try and sell the new beasts on these things is corny too. In 13 years of near daily basketball these are easily amoungst the worst performers ive ever tried if not the worst.

  14. Fair warning…DO NOT play in these. Hands down one of the worst performing bball kicks of all time. Great to look at HORRIBLE to wear. Nike should be ashamed to re-release these. They should come with a disclaimer..casual wear only…

  15. I agree with most people with the fact that this is probably the WORST shoe ever to play basketball in. Sprained my ankle for the first time in these. ZERO support and just an ankle sprain in waiting. DO NOT PLAY IN THESE.
