Nike Air Max Hyperposite Performance Review

Traction – The traction is surprisingly good… no matter what type of player wears them. While the pattern itself is designed for powerful heel and toe action, a smaller player – such as Guards and Small Forwards – can feel safe knowing that they can wear these without any hesitation on-court. Quick cuts, stops and changes in direction are all fairly well taken care of with the only issue being a bit of stiffness along the midsole and Air unit… not a huge deal for larger players most of the time.

Cushion – 360 degrees of Max Air. You are covered from heel to toe with one of the most impact absorbent cushions available. Flexibility is sacrificed but that is usually something a Guard wants while the typical big man has enough weight and strength to bent whatever may be on his or her foot. The Phylon injected heel adds to the comfort upon heel strikes while the thick insole provides you with some step-in comfort. If cushion is your main concern… these will take good care of you.

Material – The materials are fantastic. Fuse and Foam… two of the most durable synthetics available all wrapped up into one bulky shell. Battle tested and approved.

Fit – The fit is true to size but wide footers may need to go up ½ size. They will be snug at the forefoot at first but if you can hold out for a few hours then the foam begins to break-in and mold to your foot shape. With Fuse along the midfoot, lockdown and support are a non-factor while the heel foam molds to your heel shape providing you with perfect lockdown from every direction.

Ventilation – Not the best ventilation but that’s actually a requirement when Foamposite it used. There are some targeted sections located at the midfoot – both medial & lateral side – which offer some air flow and allow heat to escape which is a nice touch. Overall, the forefoot and heel need to have restricted ventilation in order for the Foamposite material to work and you will not even miss the ventilation once you see how great the fit is after the molding process has completed.

Support – Foamposite – if done properly – can offer the wearer with a tremendous amount of support and this is the best use of the materials that I’ve personally experienced. The support ties in with the other attributes of the shoe discussed above so you don’t have much to worry about. Your base is stable while the fit/ lockdown are excellent which in turn provides you with all the support you need.

Overall – Even though I am a Guard, this is one of my favorite shoes this year. My only complaint is that I’m not big enough to fully utilize all that is has to offer.

If you are a larger player looking for something that offers ample traction, maximum cushion, durable materials, superior fit and great support… look no further as Nike has created a near perfect shoe for you.

  1. these are on the hit list, but those lebron zoom 6’s in that ohio state /camo strap colorway are the business.

  2. Seems like the perfect shoe for me in every way but out of my price range.

Hopefully this shoe can drop to ~$100 🙁

    1. If you are willing to go $35 over your budget, go to Foot Locker and see if they have your size. If they do and ask you to buy, go online to the Nike Store on your phone or an employee’s phone. Then go to the hyperposite Charcoal/Atomic Green colorway, currently out of stock/ on sale for $135. Since Foot Locker matches prices, they will give you a MAJOR discount, but hurry before Nike takes the shoe off the website! Before Christmas, all sizes were available, but since everyone wanted it for Christmas, the shoe went out of stock…

  3. Dear Santa,
This year I wish Nike would make an Air “Zoom” Hyperposite for my christmas present…
PLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ I will that perfect one to one foamposite custom fit and full lenght Zoom!! that will last me for 3-4 years of hooping!

  4. great review. i’m glad you actually played in them rather than just rocked them for streetwear. did you get any noticeable scuff marks or any normal wear and tear on the shoe during your testing on them? your pair still looks flawless!

    1. Just the air unit has scuffs. The upper was stepped on a lot but the material doesn’t scuff easily and dust/ dirt just wipes right off. My penny Vs are pretty messed up though so it just shows how much materials can make a difference in durability.

  5. I’m a guy who’s used to playing w/ KB’s and Rose’s. I feel like the weight and lack of flexibility on these would bother me. I hope they make a similar set up geared towards PG’s and SG’s. Possibly a Zoom Air setup w/ more flex grooves, that would be PERFECT.

  6. I have a question!
Why do you prefer ranking this no. 3 vs Hyperdunk 2012? and where does this win over the Hyperdunk being a point guard yourself?

    1. The HD2012 is a great all around shoe for nearly every position on the floor but the top three all have something the others dont. Weather it be new innovative tech, luxury brought back to performance or a combination of proven tech wrapped into one sneaker… The top three can hold their own against almost any other shoe.

The rose, HD and Hyperposite all have the same overall score so i rank them by my opinion when that happens. I feel the list is fairly well rounded as far ask shoes featured as well. You have a G/F combo player type of shoe, a Guard shoe, a big man shoe and a versatile shoe that can handle 1-4 spot.

  7. nightwing can i ask?

if i order a shoe online using Nike Store (USA),
will it be accepted if i am currently in Asia?
    will they mail the shoes?

because here in Asia sneakers are much more dang expensive than in USA,

    thanks

  8. hey nightwing love the review bro…………..
which shoe is better in cushion the hyperposite or the lebron X or the hyperdunk 2012?????

  9. At the moment i have the adirose 773. I am experiencing alot of sliping and i am looking for a new shoe. I play center or powerforward. One shoe i am very interested is the hyperposite. The one thing i am worried about is i have a very wide foot and i am not able to find a pair of hyperposites to try on. My shoe size is 11 or 11.5. Do you think it will be a good idea to order a pair from the internet?

  10. Hyperfuse/Foamposit/360Air Max…great performance combination!

How about you NW if you had the chance to make the best performance shoe what would be the perfect setup for you?

Ex. leather upper, full length zoom air, sprint frame (you can mix different setup from other shoe brands)

  11. Do you think there would be an issue if you wore ankle braces with the Hyperposites? I was wondering because of how the shoe molds to your foot. So if you use an ankle brace sometimes, wouldnt it mold to the shape of the brace, then if you took the brace off then the fit might be off or too loose? What are your thoughts on this.

    1. In my experience foams will mold to the shape of your foot + the brace. This isn’t much of a problem with Neoprene braces but can be an issue if you like to vary back and forth between bulkier braces and no braces at all. I would recommend predetermining whether or not you will wear braces with these or any other foams and then sticking to that decision.

  12. it’s been awhile since I bought and worn something with an airmax 360 cushion. I love the comfort factor that the cushion provides but over the years, the added weight, less flex and instability didn’t do well for my liking. this shoe could be an exception provided that it’s not like the usual Lebron signature shoes. it seems to have the components that I like about the shoe. ventilation is more than enough to get some breathability. I’m getting pretty excited on having these.

  13. why did you do the performance review indoor not outdoor, and did you change the camera, the video looks like kinda blur.

  14. ^ hoopsballer I’ve seen people play in lebron 8s the air bag is surprisingly resistance but the traction and rubber will fade before the airbag pops.

As a PG I really hope Nike does make a foamposite with zoom air for guards since we are the bigger market. But I guess there just AFRAID they’ll lose a lot of money if they screw them up lol. In my opinion they’d make more people if they listened the the sneakerhead community and made shoes that suit there needs. So they could chose whether they want lightweight performance like a sneaker with hyperfuse materials or durable performance with materials like foamposites, and also make them comfortable with heel and forefoot cushioning. Maybe they will address this with the This is Flight Campaign since russel Westbrook needs a shoe that’s lightweight and offers enough impact protection for his fast and aggressive playing style.

Also Nike should make a shoe like the lebron soldier 6 that had as much STYLE as the hyperposite but that’s lightweight for a guard. I just can’t rock the soldier 6 on or off court. While the i do believe the hyperposite is a great looking shoe, the color ways are just way to loud and for my taste. End of rant.

    1. dude i didn’t even read your comment but i echoed the same exact sentiment. where is the foamposite/hyperfuse/ZOOM air for guards. just got the hyperposites, love them, but i wish they were closer to the ground with a more responsive air unit. also the cut is really high. regardless a beautiful shoe. but they can easily adjust the tech for smaller (cough*average) person who isn’t 6’2″ 210 lbs.

  15. Another great review. I’m gonna try and wait out to see if these hit the outlets and grab a pair, seeing that they don’t sellout easily over here.

  16. dude, nightwing, I just got these today, opened the box and I think I fell in love. the fireberry colorway is sooo sick. got it on sale from nike.com and this sneaker has a justifiable $225 pricetag, on sale for $180 is a must buy. so form fitting and snug, but not painful or irritating. if they transfer the tech onto a full length Zoom air unit with a mid cut for guards plus some more flex grooves, it would easily be THE shoe for 2013.

  17. Awesome! I knew there was something special about this shoe, the moment I saw the Max Air and its price tag LOL. I’ve read other reviews and lots of guards and forwards are loving these bad boys.

I’m kinda confused if I should pick these up or an AdiRose 2.5 (coz of the price) or the Zoom Soldier 6. I’m a 3 – 4 that sometimes rely on speed and Im lookin for a shoe that’s light on the feet and has awesome cushioning.

  18. what would you recommend the hyperposite or lebron x? I play the 4 and 5 so i wanted something with a lot of cushion, but does the weight affect the shoe at all? I played in the lebron 9s last year so i dont mind a shoe a little heavy i just dont want it super heavy and weighing me down.

  19. got em. love em. these aer all around amazing and since i dont give a crap about breathability, there werent many downfalls to the shoe

  20. I dont think braces are needed in this one. The foamposite molds to your foot perfectly! When i wore my braces and the shoes it felt uncomfortable for real but when i let the foamposite just mold to my foot shape and ankle it was THE BEST

  21. Finally a Color way i was into – The crazy Blue with the Hot Orange and Glow soul – they look like a forgotten Area 72 kick. Cant wait to get my hoop on. I tried size 11 and 11.5 and couldnt tell the difference so went to sz 11 since i prefer Snug hoopin shoes.

  22. thanks for the review, just copped a pair of these of ebay , super happy with them, they are molding to my feet as we speak.

  23. how exactly do they mold to your feet? i have these and foam pros and i don’t see or feel this whole molding to your feet myth.

    1. i have played in lebrons for years outdoor with no problems, slippage, air max break etc and where i play is less than ideal. not once have i worried about the lebrons outdoors. I just picked up the hyperposites and havent tried them outdoors yet but i am mega confident. my only fear is they still feel tight. hoping they will form to my foot soon.

  24. After watching NW review the Hyperposite 2, I felt nostalgic and I’m psyched to wear these today for some pickup games. I’ve been so use to playing in lows that I wonder if I will like these like I use to.

  25. I play mostly sg and pg and i was looking to cop these but would u recomend this shoe for the positions i play

  26. Hey Nightwing, great review,
I was wondering if you can do flexibility, for example, the hyperrevs woulds bend and flex to your foot, then say, the m11s. Because im a guard and I prefer shoes where I could bend my feet easily.

  27. I’m a lot late on these, but they are the best shoe I’ve ever balled in. I normally wouldn’t pay this much for a shoe, but it felt so good I had to do it! I’m a taller point guard at 6’2 and a lil bit older at 38 and I love them. I also play the 2, 3, and sometimes 4 if we play small ball. These give me the support and cushioning us older guys need after 33 years of BALLING with bad ankles, back, and knees. These are my go to shoe! You need a pair in your life!
