Nike, adidas and Under Armour All Pass on Lonzo Ball

LaVar Ball is back at it again.

According to ESPN’s Darren Rovell; Nike, adidas and Under Armour are no longer interested in giving LaVar’s son, Lonzo, a sneaker deal.

Apparently, LaVar insisted that one of the three companies license his upstart Big Baller Brand instead of offering Lonzo a traditional sneaker endorsement deal. The deal that LaVar wanted would entitle him and his brand royalties to all sales while the other, more traditional deal, would simply give Lonzo a check off the top as well as some free gear for the remainder of his contract.

LaVar also brought a sneaker prototype that he hoped would be Lonzo’s first signature sneaker as he has no desire to “sit” and “wait” for one of the major companies to give his son a signautre model in “five or six years”

“We’re not going to sign with a company and then wait around for five or six years for a shoe like Paul George had to wait for with Nike. ” – Lavar ball

It sounds like LaVar wants it all and he wants it now but many believe that he’s getting in the way of his son(s) success and is doing more harm than good. What do you think?

  1. His entrepreneurial spirit is interesting and to a degree, commendable. That being said, if it were someone actually starving then they would jump on a chance to sign with an established brand and do whatever they need to do after. From the looks of things, these kids and this family aren’t starving so they are less likely to just jump at things that others might. He is taking a major gamble. Why would waiting a few years for a sig be a horrible thing in his mind? I have no idea, but yeah…INTERESTING. LOL!

    1. LOL ! you are so kind but the truth is, part of his strategy is to act delusional or indeed delusional. his kids better than Lebron or kid will ever be, him being better than Jordan statements, those create publicity like a Kardashian (rubbish) publicity. on the otherhand, it is indeed a big risk but at the same time, he is an idiot with an over-inflated ego. I believe this false bravado came out considering those major shoe companies didn’t offer his son a stupid billion dollar shoe deal. these “BIG” billion dollar companies are not stupid enough to invest that big in an unproven commodity let alone license a fucking no-name brand that hasn’t even proven that it’s worth shit in terms of marketing and sales figures. I just love this family appearing on “SHARK TANK”, that would be a sight to behold. LMFAO !

  2. You’re giving this clown WAY too much credit. He’s an insecure, selfish, delusional never-was who’s living vicariously through his son(s) and is fucking up his future. I personally don’t think Lonzo Ball is gonna pan out, and taking away a potential deal from him now is gonna cost them big time in more ways than one.

    1. in fairness, the kid does look to have potential but I don’t believe his present talent would carry him in the NBA. Fox killed him and his shooting from behind the arc looks awkward and can be defended well in the NBA. I also don’t believe he has the physicality to keep up. he could be a great orchestrator though, but that’s about it.

  3. Lonzo Ball will be a starting PG in the NBA for 12 plus years. He will be an All Star for 30% of that career. What he will not be is, the next transient game changing player his father believes he is. As far as shoe deals go, their hard to come by. John Wall does not have a signature shoe. He is light years ahead of Ball. Should dad be sidelined. Yes. Should you take the foot in the door deal, Yes. Is that happening in this situation. No. Only Lonzo will suffer, it’s hard to imagine him being Westbrook or Melo who have generic Nike/Jordan deals. No signature shoes. I agree pops needs to be benched to allow Lonzo to be in the starting five or maybe…maybeeeeee..hall of fame weartesters.

  4. He’s ruining the kid’s chances, and he’s already going to have a hard enough time living up to his hype, I suspect he’s less NBA-ready than most people think.

    1. define most people? like the media? hell, they are more concerned about cheap reality tv BS entertainment on interviewing Lavar than his children. the only person that is hyping Lonzo is his father and some idiots even believe the delusional father.

I think most basketball fan knew that Lonzo is all hype. come on, Magic Johnson comparison? seriously? HAHAHA !

          1. I know, it’s why his Dad’s attitude is really hurting him, because he’s gonna struggle to get up to par in the NBA.

  5. Some thought he was just talking big in the media and wouldn’t directly interfere with his sons’ careers. So much for that.

  6. This guy is out of his mind. How many players have active signature shoe lines with one of the big companies right now? Lebron, KD, Kyrie, George, Rose, Lillard, Harden, Curry, Melo, and CP3? That’s all I can think of. And most of them did not have a signature shoe as soon as they came in the league.

Pops is acting like this kid is Lebron or Shaq or Iverson coming into the league…..a can’t miss superstar with major appeal to people beyond basketball. He’s not.
