It isn’t just rappers and athletes that get their own sneakers in 2017. Chef David Chang now has his own Dunk that pays homage to the long-standing relationships his restaurants have with New York.
The Nike SB Dunk High Pro ‘Momofuku’ dons dark denim inspired by the aprons Momofuku staffers wear. David Chang, the founder of the Momofuku restaurant group, is an author, TV personality, and restauranteur that has been awarded two Michelin stars.
When he opened his first restaurant, Momofuku, in the East Village District of Manhattan, he was able to meet skaters and see the parallels between the food and skate scenes. In turn, he was influenced by the skaters as seen with his decision to outfit his chefs with dark gray instead of the usual blues and whites. In his words, “We wanted it to suggest an apron, basically.”
According to Chang, the visible Air unit was “one of the coolest things I’d ever seen.” Since ’87, he has been an avid fan of Nike and has remained loyal throughout the years.
The numbers “163” and “207” highlight sockliners and honor David’s Fuku and Ssäm Bar restaurants, respectively, in NYC. According to Chang, “Both addresses hold so much meaning for Momofuku: Noodle Bar and Ssäm Bar established our DNA. 163 First Avenue has served as our spiritual home since 2004 as the original location of Noodle Bar, the KO, and now Fuku.”
“It continues to be a place where we try out new ideas. We also wouldn’t be where we are today without the lessons we’ve learned at Ssam Bar, which this summer celebrates its 11th anniversary,” he added in a statement.
The Momofuku logo, a peach, adorns the heel of the sneaker, which marks a first as this is the first time Chang has partnered up with a brand for merchandise. “I don’t want to throw our logo on, like, a T-shirt,” he says. “This one feels like it counts.”
Every June in NYC, Chang and Nike SB partner up to feed local skaters during Go Skateboarding Day. This year, skaters at Coleman Skate Park in New York will be treated to Fuku’s spicy fried chicken sandwiches for lunch.
The Nike SB Dunk High Pro ‘Momofuku’ will be available at Fuku (163 First Avenue, New York, NY 10003) on June 22 starting at 10 a.m. On June 23 it will be available at select Nike retailers, though no price has been announced.

Do you guys know if these would be available online?
No word, but you can check nike.com or the SNKRS App just in case.
These are clean and cool being that I’m from NYC and been to all his restaurants. Definitely overpriced, but delicious food lol
Really? I’m from Cali so I figured mostly everything in NYC is overpriced compared to Cali lol.
