The Jordan Extra.Fly is Now Available

Jordan Extra.Fly - SolarRed- Full view

Jordan Brand has been trying to come up with budget friendly models and it seems like it might have hit the mark (sort of). Here we have the Jordan Extra.Fly.

The Extra.Fly from the Jumpman seems to be a takedown model of the Ultra.Fly. Not to say that it’s a bad thing, but for those who prefer a low-top platform, these might be the go-to choice. The upper features an overlay mesh with fuse along the toebox. The midsole and outsole utilize the same Phylon and forefoot Zoom Air setup as the existing Ultra.Fly. The lacing system seems to be Flywire cables, although that seems quite suspect along the toe box on the location of the lace loops could possibly mean dead space — but that’s just a visual assessment. The shoe also features soft synthetics from the midfoot to heel along with a pull-tab for easy entry.

While we’re not all too excited with the repeated utilization of the outsole, we feel that this particular pair might perform identically to it’s bigger brother, the Jordan Ultra.Fly.

If you are interested in a pair, ID4Shoes has them already available in the Solar/Infrared colorway with a price point of $130, while other colors are set to release later this Fall.

How do you like the look of this model? Does it remind of you the Ultra.Fly? Let us know what you think down in the comments.

  1. I know it is supposed to be a budget model coming in at $130 but I’d rather pay for the CLB2016 for $10 less or pay $20 more and buy the Crazy Explosive or KD9. Just my thoughts but let Jordan Brand do whatever they want

  2. For $130? Way too many shoes can be had for less or just a little bit more and both options perform better. $110 seems the most appropriate. Not sure who this shoe is targeting

  3. Because of the $130 price point I can’t see these being very successful. Jordan band must know by now that people like the retros and the new signatures and that is what they pay good money for (although some signature sales might beg to differ). At $130 there are way too many shoes that look and perform better than this, and even though this has the Jumpman on it, I can really see something like this not selling well and seeing a lot of price drops later on…but hey, I’m not gonna complain about price drops.

  4. It hasn’t been a performance line for the past 3-5 years.
It’s all nostalgia. Until they “innovate” something ground-breaking, we won’t be seeing anything breath-taking.

  5. The price point is bad for a shoe of its performance (mainly the tooling) as shoes like the CLB 2016, lillard 2, curry 2, etc etc can be had for less and are all enjoyable

  6. So its got the meh zoom from the Ultrafly, and it looks like an ugly version of a Brandblack shoe. Thats alright, I’m good.

Also, if shoe companies want to aim for a budget model, get it under 100. Lots of better options in the 120-150 range than this crap.

  7. I agree with he price point criticisms, however I went ahead and grabbed a pair. I had some Kobe Mamba Instincts (AKA Mentality 3’s) peel on me after 1 play in them so I went ahead and paid the extra $20 and exchanged for the black/red ones. JB doesn’t really have many performance lows outside of the CP3, and I prefer lows, so I decided what the heck.

I am more impressed than I anticipated I’d be. The forefoot zoom is quite bouncy. Actually comparable to the 28 and 29 IMO (obviously not as good, but closer than one might anticipate). Full disclosure, I do play in the Stance NBA On Court socks when I play and those are the are the best padded hoops socks ever (IMO) so that could be helping the feel. But having said that, I absolutely hated the feel on the Zoom Witness (very hard) so these clearly have a better forefoot zoom. The midfoot to heel are quite responsive, as well. The shoe is snug fitting which I like (I have a foot on the narrow side). Lace and lockdown are solid, no slippage. Which is a plus for me personally cause it took me forever to get my Hyperdunk 2016 lows laced somewhere between not slipping on my heel to cutting off my circulation. Traction is also very good (I only play indoors).

As for looks, that’s always a matter of one’s opinion. I could live without the diamond pattern but I’m pretty indifferent on it really. I like the profile of the shoe and JMO the red/black and spacejam models look pretty good.

Anyway, back to the price point, if you prefer lows like I do and and are looking for a good budget model you can find the all blacks on sale at Finish Line for $87.98

My impromptu review that you didn’t ask for..LOL

  8. Would you guys recommend this shoe for an outdoor court? I’m only new to basketball and want to know some people’s opinions. If not, what would be a good low priced shoe for an outdoor court?
