BrandBlack J Crossover 2 Performance Review | TheWongKicks

A long awaited video, but better late than never right? You can’t go wrong with the Brandblack J Crossover 2. That’s it really.

Below is my very first video performance review, and this video is also my first video I’ve edited so please excuse the poor editing and lack of entertaining features as I’m still trying to get used to this editing process. Hope you enjoy everything!

DSC_0966Traction: Traction on the J Crossover 2 was a straight beast in my opinion. One of the most well-rounded set-ups, in terms of gripping multiple surfaces. As most people already know, the traction pattern on the JC2 is not a very conventional pattern, where the traction pattern is more of a blade looking pattern. This specific pattern grips the floor like glue and gives you that squeak that everyone likes on the hardwood. Even on not-so-good courts, the traction on the JC2 has you covered, maybe with the exception of minimal wipes to clear the dust when it builds up.

DSC_0963Cushion: Cushion on the JC2 is in the form of a full length foam setup, which BrandBlack calls their “Jetlon” foam. Jetlon foam gives you a really responsive ride, similar to Zoom Air. Some may think that Micro G is more of a better fit when comparing to Zoom Air cushioning, but in my opinion, the Jetlon foam gives a more responsive ride than even Micro G. The Jetlon foam also compresses really easily upon heel strikes as well, sometimes almost too much. However, there is a small plastic wing that encapsulates part of the midsole to keep it from compressing too much.

DSC_0973Support: The J Crossover 2 does a phenomanal job in keeping you supported. The JC2 is equipped with a midfoot shank to provide arch support and rigidity, while an internal heel counter is present to keep your foot from shifting side-to-side upon cuts and slashing movements. Along with the midfoot shank and the internal heel counter, there is a plastic frame that encapsulates part of the midsole in order to control how much the midsole compresses, keeping you stable. The rest of the support in the shoe comes from the overall fit of the shoe and lacing system to keep your foot locked into the footbed.

DSC_0967Fit: True to size. That’s literally all I can say on this shoe. No matter what foot shape you have, you should be fine with your true size. Some people may find it easier to even go down half a size as the woven upper conforms pretty easily to any foot shape. In my opinion, the woven upper fits similar to the Air Jordan 29, so if you cannot try on the JC2, maybe try on a pair of the Jordan 29s to get a feel for the fit.

DSC_0962Materials: Full woven upper in the forefoot and midfoot, with a synthetic in the heel area. The woven upper is very soft and pliable, giving you range of motion and freedom within the toebox area. The synthetic in the heel is designed after high end fashion, and has a very nice texture which resembles a synthetic leather.

DSC_0957Overall: The BrandBlack J Crossover 2 is overall a very well-rounded shoe, and can probably be the go to shoe for almost any type of player. The woven upper is soft enough to give a tremendous range of motion and causes no restriction in the forefoot area, all while keeping your foot contained onto the foot bed. The BrandBlack J Crossover 2 contains Jetlon foam, which gives you a foam setup that is super bouncy, similar to Zoom Air, and to add to that is full length! You’ll be covered with the support of the shoe just fine as the overall fit of the shoe helps to contain your foot and the lacing system keeps your foot drawn into the foot bed.

Personally, these are my favorite shoe right now to wear on the court, and second most favorite to wear off court (only behind the Adidas Pure Boost of course). Personally wishing that BrandBlack released more colorways in mass numbers, because some of the colorways (BHM and All Red) they’re releasing are exclusives to a boutique and I can’t get my hands on those pairs! If you have the opportunity to grab a pair, and you see a colorway that you like, you should grab a pair while you can!

  1. Nice Job, Jordan/Wong!!!! Pretty much my opinion as well – shoe is sick for second generation. Loving them.

  2. Great for your first vid! I’ve recently just started my own sneaker channel and I know how you’re feeling! Nothing wrong with the editing either!

  3. Nice one. Way to pop that video performance review cherry! Keep at it and before you know it, you’ll be spitting out smooth edits like its nada. One suggestion: to make it read more concisely, don’t state the same thing in several different sections.

  4. I just stepped off the court for the first time in the JCII. Everything, everyone has being saying is true. This may be one of the best all around hoop shoes i’ve ever worn. I usually rock the AJ XX8 SE, but those may find their way back to the box.
