BrandBlack DJX Trainer – Detailed Review

DeSean Jackson gets his first signature sneaker from BrandBlack and it’s a banger.

The DJX Trainer features a unibody construction, TPU exoskeleton, Force Vector outsole technology and a full-length Jet-lon midsole for only $90. That’s an excellent amount of tech for an extremely fair price and did we mention that they look dope as well?

I’m personally in love with just about everything that the DJX has to offer. Not only is it aesthetically pleasing but the tech that is offered is great as well.

Stay tuned for the performance review in the coming weeks but until then, here is your detailed look of the DJX from BrandBlack.

The BrandBlack DJX Trainer is set to release on September 22 for $90 on BrandBlack.com.

  1. The design is dope and, full length Jetlon for 90 is sick. You put a swoosh on these is would be 150. For a small company, there doing big things. I just got a pair of the JC2 LTMD and I have a pair of Mirage and No Name incoming. Brandblack is one my my favorite brands.

  2. Brand Black is really doing great things with their design, tech, and cost. I LOVE the models that I have. I have the JC2 x 2, JC3 x 2, Force Vector Leather, and Rocket (casual leather model) x 2. I might have to grab a pair of these for training.

    1. These shoes look awesome. I’d love to get a pair of these blacked out versions for work. I just don’t know where to get them from. If Revolve clothing don’t carry them, then I don’t know of any other stores that ship to Australia that would carry these. Oh, and if Revolve do carry them, I’d hope they have size 11.5US, as for some reason they skip that size half the time.

btw are these true to size, Jarron? If I don’t have access to size 11.5US, would you go up or down half a size?

I also wish BrandBlack sold their shoes internationally directly from their website. I really think they need to start catching up with other brands like Under Armour who do that. I can buy UA shoes directly from their US website (it’s a bit pricey, as for some reason they add 20% on top of the retail price after doing the US to AUD conversion – I’ve asked numerous times via email why they do this as they don’t do it for other regions near Australia, but I never got a straight answer from them). They even just started up an Australian website, but the range of shoes aren’t as good, so they still give you the option to order from the US website if you’re willing to pay the postage prices and the extra 20% on top of their retail price (which I am not willing to do most of the time), but at least the options are there to buy their shoes.

Anyway, sorry for that rant about UA’s pricing. I still don’t get why they’re adding 20% on top of their US retail prices after the US to AUD conversion. They never gave me a straight answer when I contacted them about it. The main reason I was upset about it was because they don’t do it for other regions near Australia. If BrandBlack do choose to sell directly from their US website internationally, I’d hope they don’t do that. If they want to add something like 10% on top of their US retail prices to make it worth their while (and cap the shipping to a reasonable, fair price), I’d be happy with that. Hopefully, BrandBlack gives us international customers more access to buy their shoes sooner rather than later.

      1. What’s up Ice? I can’t answer all of the questions but I do know that Brand Black shoes are closer to TTS if you go by typical Nike sizing. I wear 10.5 in Nike, BB, UA, etc but mostly 10 in Adidas shoes as of late although I haven’t tried the latest Rose model.

I also wish that the BB site was more robust. Sometimes it’s so frustrating to put something in your cart only to find out at another screen that it’s not even available in that size. Their software client for inventory could use some work. They will probably begin to expand more internationally too once they hit whatever goals they have for what they’ve deemed their priority/primary regions. I think that things will pick up even more for them soon giving them more flexibility with that.

They really are doing something special with their brand and I hope that they never change that.

    1. Just saw it mentioned in the write up. lol, I also made the mistake a ton of others do in regards to posting before reading the OP.

  3. I’m not into these kind of trainers, but the execution seems great. Big ups to BB staying true to themselves. Really hope business has been solid. Big ups to Jarron as well for getting the point across about how dope the brand and offerings are.

Of all the “I’ll check it out sometime” sneakers/brands there are, I highly insist giving Brandblack a shot sooner than later. Literally using the FV leather’s at work and no one’s calling me out for wearing sneakers in a professional office environment.

  4. I just received the grey version of the DJX last night from Revolve and have to return them. They look great but there a few inexcusable flaws in the design for a performance model. First of all, the shoe does NOT have a tongue and I wish this was mentioned in the review. Shoes without separate tongues have been successfully implemented in the past (e.g. Hyperev 2015, which I loved), but in this case, the concept wasn’t well-executed. Previous executions featured a tight inner bootie with structural overlays that are NOT attached to the bootie, permitting customized fit via tightening of the laces. The unconventional lace loops in the DJX are literally holes in the bootie; when tightened, the material where the tongue usually is becomes bunched together because the laces are pulling on the bootie itself, making for an ugly appearance, ineffective tightening, and uncomfortable wear. Second, the cast urethane exterior of the DJX is very soft, but the support is lacking not primarily because the material is soft, but because it is coupled (attached) to the inner bootie. I could feel my feet seriously sliding over the sides of the midsole when making lateral cuts. Basically the laces serve no functional purpose in this shoe and training in them will be like training in slip-ons. I don’t know how DeSean Jackson will be able to train in these sneakers …
