Under Armour Spine Clutch – First Impression

The good folks over at Finish Line sent Wear Testers the Under Armour Spine Clutch which will be available only at Finish Line later this summer.

The UA Spine Clutch is a perfect mix between proven technology and new technology from Under Armour. With the UA Spine chassis technology has been very successful by providing flexibility without sacrificing support. ClutchFit technology is the new kid on the block for Under Armour, which activates under pressure providing a second skin like feel for a great fit and comfort. Overall we are very excited here at Wear Testers to start performance testing the UA Spine Clutch but before that we must give our first impressions in the video below.

Don’t forget to share your thoughts on the UA Spine Clutch in the comments section below.

  1. Are any of Under Armour’s running shoes any good? It doesn’t seem like serious runners think much of them.

    1. Ice09 actually their most touted running shoe (apollo something) I forgot but that top of the line model actually has good reviews/recommended in a bunch of sites/blogs for runners. I guess similarly to Basketball the lack of exposure or brand knowledge seems to be the cause as its neither a runner specific brand nor a widely known brand

      1. Hey Face, thanks for commenting.

Is that one of their latest shoes? the Apollo?

I tried looking at some running shoe sites (I’m not a runner) about 6 months or so ago and their shoes got average reviews nearly everywhere I looked. Maybe I looked at the wrong sites? I wanted to get a pair for some casual running/training, but yeah, it seemed that in most of the reviews I read they were touted as average. Asics, Brooks, Nike, Adidas, Mizuno, New Balance and those more well known brands are the ones that they seemed to have preferred.

The other thing is, the Micro G cushioning never got much praise either in the reviews that I read, yet Nightwing and other people here love it in basketball shoes. I do too, in the one pair of UA Basketball shoes I own (Under Armour Torch 2s). I wonder if it’s implemented differently in their running shoes?

        1. I suppose (I am not much of a runner either, but I do jog quiet a lot) And I have tried micro G which I also think is great. Also I think it could be because basketball and running have different needs. The speedform apollo was a recommended shoe by runners.com for spring 2014(if that means anything) And I also noiced sometimes they describe the foam as soft so maybe it is used differently. But atleast they have one model that is above average.

  2. Hey Jason, will you be doing reviews on other running shoes. I would like to see a review on the under armor speed form Apollo and the nike free shoes

  3. Also I am a little bit surprised because I thought underarmour only uses 4D foam as a sockliner and not the actual midsole as they have used micro G in previous spine models like the evo

    1. U r right. They only use 4d foam as their form fitting sock liner.its basically a memory foam they use to form a personalized fit along the foot bed to prevent slippage. Feels pretty awesomr when coupled with the microG foam midsoles. Pretty sure they do this for every shoe they’ve had within the past 5-6 yrs.

  4. The product page on UA says
Molded 4D Foam® footbed conforms to your foot’s exact shape, eliminating slippage
Full-length Micro G® foam turns cushioned landings into explosive takeoffs
so I’m pretty sure it still uses Micro G for cushioning
