adidas CrazyQuick 2.0 Performance Review

Nothing crazy about them, just straight-up performance.

adidas CrazyQuick 2.0 Performance Review 1Traction – Just like the original CQ, the CrazyQuick 2.0 has great traction. Herringbone is everywhere, its aggressive and makes up the entire outsole plus its multidirectional. Only downside here is when you play on courts that don’t get refinished regularly – most shoes will suffer from this as well – and the fact that the rubber wore down pretty fast and that was only with indoor play. Other than that… you’ll be pretty satisfied with how the outsole performs.

adidas CrazyQuick 2.0 Performance Review 2Cushion – They still feature a minimal setup and while I assumed the different colored outsole meant there would be targeted cushion in place… that wasn’t the case. Just adidas’ standard EVA and PU insole are in place for cushion and while that isn’t a problem for me… players that want or need more cushion just wont get that here. However, if you love court feel, and low profile responsiveness then you’ll love these. I personally enjoy them and think they feel great.

adidas CrazyQuick 2.0 Performance Review 3Materials – While I loved the TechFit upper of the original, the 2.0 upgraded the materials a bit with synthetic overlays on top of mesh with a TechFit inner sleeve. These materials contain the foot much better and they’re much more durable as well while retaining full, unrestricted range of motion.

adidas CrazyQuick 2.0 Performance Review 4Fit – They fit a little long so if you prefer a snug/ perfect fit then go down 1/2 size. Wide footers, I strongly suggest you try the shoe on as they do fit slightly narrow and long so it’ll be hard to determine what size to get unless you try them on. As for lockdown, I have no complaints at all. You have better containment in this shoe with the synthetic overlays versus the originals TechFit and the heel area is heavily padded which feels great while laced up.

adidas CrazyQuick 2.0 Performance Review 5Ventilation – If you enjoy ventilation then this will be a great shoe for you. Only thing that doesn’t make much sense to me is that you make a shoe well ventilated yet you can’t wear them outdoors due to durability of the outsole. Just a little strange since this shoe would be a good option for outdoor players with this type of air flow.

adidas CrazyQuick 2.0 Performance Review 6Support – Superior containment and fit, SprintFrame – shaved down like the Rose 4 & 4.5 for forefoot comfort – and a nice flat and stable base coupled with Next Gen PureMotion. You really can’t get much more true support than that. Only way you can get more support than this is if you make a really restrictive shoe… which aren’t fun to play in. If you’re light and quick on your feet then these were made specifically with you in mind.

adidas CrazyQuick 2.0 Performance Review 7Overall – I really liked the original and while the changes made with the second iteration are pretty minor when directly comparing… they’re significant enough to make these one of my favorite shoes this year… hands down. Only reason why I’d pick something like the Kobe 9 EM over this is due to their ultimate traction which I’d grade over a 10 if I could. Other than that… these are so much fun to play in and they don’t restrict you as a player at all. Whatever it is you usually do, you’ll be able to do so effortlessly.

Hopefully you enjoyed this performance review on the adidas CrazyQuick 2.0 and big thank you to HesKicks of CollectiveKicks.com for grabbing these for me at the adidas Employee Store… saved me half of the shoes initial cost, which helps a lot since I pay for most of these reviews out of pocket.

  1. I was literally just about to shut my computer down before I refreshed this window and saw this review. I bought the exact same Quicks II, but I was holding off hooping in them until this review dropped. I might still take the SEs with me tonight because my mind and colors are set lol. Let me read and watch now!

      1. Yeah no doubt that you have my support. So you went with an 8.5? I listened to Hsuperman’s advice to go down half a size, but I also tried 11.5 and 12 in store just to be sure. You guys are on the money about them running slightly bigger(longer). The support around the heel does feel robust just by me walking the house in them. Excellent review as always!

        **Sidebar props**
Also I’d like to thank you for getting your J’s early to tell us how the sizing runs because we have to know ahead of time what size we are going for with all of the low supply/high demand bs.

        1. Yea I agree when he reviews retros like a week before they drop it really helps me and I’m sure everybody make a decision.

          1. I hope they are cutting him in with some profit, because I’m pretty sure this site gets enough traffic for a company to see a dip if every did or didn’t purchase a shoe.

I for one like many just wait for the NW review if it’s on something new that I can’t vouch for. That said, NW I hope you get some vacation time.

  2. If only they were for outdoor hoopers. I really was hoping to buy these and hoping they were like the rose traction.

    1. Yep.

Adidas seem to not care what their customers want. I wonder if they read this place at all? A lot of people want a Puremotion 2.0 shoe with durable traction and upper for outdoor use, but they don’t seem interested in making one. I’m sure they’d sell a ton of them in countries like China, but hey, I guess they simply don’t care.

The Rose 4 might be more durable traction wise, but from what I’ve read/seen, the rest of the shoe doesn’t seem to be durable enough for outdoor play. The upper as well as the outsole needs to be more durable for outdoor use. We’re not interested in paying good money to have the shoe rip apart after a week’s worth of use outdoors.

Having said that, it’s OK that they’ve made this an indoor only shoe as it’s geared for NBA players to wear them, so I completely understand if they don’t want to compromise the performance of the shoe indoors, but why not release a model that can be used outdoors with a more durable traction and upper? Both upper and outsole need to be durable for outdoor use.

Hopefully Adidas will come out with something, if not, I won’t buy a pair and will just have to skip Puremotion 2.0 shoes altogether.

      1. the adidas payoff is puremotion inspired. its almost segmented the same as the 1st cq. it is a low to mid tier shoe as its only inspired by the cq and puremotion. but i do understand where you are coming from. most low to mid tier shoes dont even have ventilation that much. and most low to mid tier shoes are used for outdoors as the high end stuff is a shame to grind down on the blacktop.

      2. Ice09, I’ve been wearing the Rose 4s outside at least twice a week for about 4 months now, and I have no complaints about them whatsoever…not sure what you’re talking about as far as the upper goes, they are bulletproof, and that is possibly the only complaint one might have about the shoe, the stiffness of the plastic upper…the edges of the herringbone pattern, which is relatively thin, do wear down a bit after a few weeks of aggressive play, but the traction still works beautifully on every kind of surface…

my CQs are indoor only shoes, and that will be the case with these CQ2s as well when i get them on sale…playing indoors is a real luxury here and wearing the CQs is as well, i have to say that they are still very much my favorite shoes to hoop in, though, i too wish that they would come out with an outdoor version, because the tech fit, the traction and the court feel are unparalleled, but the rose 4 comes close enough i guess…

        1. And this is why we need Tadatsune to put up his own site as well!! Weartesters Asia Edition

Thanks for continually posting tour thoughts, they mean a lot to us asian ballers on outdoor courts!

        2. Maybe I got the upper mixed up with the CrazyQuicks? I’m sure I’ve read somewhere that the upper doesn’t hold up well outdoors. It might have been in reference to the CrazyQuicks then?

I’m also not able to see then in person, so that is why I gotta go off of what I read online.

Which Rose 4s do you have, because I just remembered that there is a couple of colorways with different uppers. I think one has a nubuck type upper and another has a synthetic upper, but I don’t like either of those two colorways, so I probably won’t get them.

Anyway, if you vouch for them holding up outdoors, then I think I will look at getting a pair. So both the outsole and upper will hold up much better than the CrazyQuicks outdoors?

Also, have you seen the Rose 4.5s in person? If so, in your opinion, do they look like they can hold up outdoors in comparison to the Rose 4s?

          1. Ice, the rose 4 definitely gets the job done outdoors, the upperis waterproof, weatherproof, crease proof, huge dude who steps on your feet everytime he tries to box you out proof, scuff and dirt proof, etcetera. The trade off is that it is prettystiff and feels very plasticky, so the perfect one to one feeling you might get with, say, the cp3.vii (in the leather an suedemakeup) might be lacking just a little bit. The crazyquickis a bettershoe in this regard, too.

Not too sure what you’re speaking of with the different uppers, as far as I knowall the rose 4s have the same upper- synthetics with a geofitcollar/rear half of the shoe, rthey were madeto take a serious beating.

As far as the rose 4.5 goes, I don’t reallysee the point of them…I like the details on the tongue and the collar, but otherwise I think they are hideous, NW statedthat they might give you a bit more air flow, but the rose 4 doesn’t lack in that regard so I wouldn’t think that They offer anything besides an aesthetic tweak that you can take or leave, muchlike the 3.5.

If you don’t have especially narrow feet, don’t mind a plasticky upper/ firm cushion, want superior stability, traction, support and court feel, I think the rose 4 is a reallyreliable choice, particularlysince they are prettycheapnow.

That beingsaid they are a different pair of shoesfrom the CQ, the traction performs
Slightly differently (squeakier, whereas the CQ givesyou a smoother, more ‘controlled’feeling if that makes any sense, it isn’t sticky or squeaky like a lot of herringbone, but it is impeccable all the same) , sits somewhat higher off the ground and the difference of uppermaterial also makes a considerable difference as to how the shoe feels

          2. Oh yeah, I have the greyishblack red pair with the grey sprintframeand the blacklaces with red trim, the ones damehas been wearing with the blazers homejersey all season…they are the only ones I reallylike, the red ones are okay too but I can’t reallyget downwith the half and half look…

            Two other things to note-
These won’twork as off court shoesin my opinion, the uppermaterial is so shinyand the toe is reallynarrow, they look great on feet with ball shorts but jeans or sweats just look strange

Also, folks say they can’t feel the adiprene in the heel but I can, I think it’s a nice touchpersonally.

          3. Thanks for the info man. I will definitely consider them now. I’ll wait until the price drops some more though as I’ll be using them outdoors. I just didn’t want them wearing out in a week or two. I was mainly concerned about the upper holding up outside, as I thought the traction would definitely last much longer than the regular CrazyQuicks would outdoors. How would the upper of the CrazyQuicks go outside?

There is definitely two colorways of the Rose 4 that have different upper materials. I looked it up before. Here is a link where I posted which colorways they were.

Edit : for some reason it won’t let me post the link, even though the link is to another page on this site.

      1. NightWing I need your answer so was planning to buy the adi crazy quick 2 so i found out that the adi crazy quick 1 & the adi crazy quick 2 are all the same so what do you think is the best?

  3. Thanks for the review NW! I might buy this when it goes on sale, an adidas outlet just opened up at a Mall near my home. 😀

  4. Solid review NW !! Much appreciated. Was going to cop this for a friend later this year for his bday, wanted to see the review on them and if they were worth buying. Definitely going to cop him these shoes and perhaps even a JWall edition for myself 🙂

  5. Been waiting on this review and well worth the wait. Great Job! One question. How does the sprint frame from the crazyquick 1 differ from the crazyquick2?
    Thanks.

    1. Thanks! The OG CQ had an “old” style SprintFrame which rose up the sides of the foot till about the mid foot mark just before the ball of the foot. Wide footers and even some normal footers complained that the sides would pinch the forefoot area, something I experienced with the very early renditions of the frame on the Rose 2/ 2.5. The new CQ features the new frame which shaved the sides off but kept the heel and underfoot sections which are the two sections that provide the support.

The frame itself is for support but also eliminates certain materials found on traditional shoe manufacturing thus cutting down the weight. It’s literally the shoes frame that it’s built around along with the support frame for your foot.

  6. How is the cushion compared to the original cq1? I’ve heard that it is a little more plush and comfortable on the 2, which isn’t really saying much.

    1. I walked around with a shoe from both generations on both feet at the same time for half an hour at home. The OG Quicks feel like nothing is there at all and I could feel every bit of the floor. There is substantially more in the Quicks II because although the court feel is present, I haven’t felt the floor like I have in any bball shoe other than the OG Quicks.

  7. Hey Chris, I am player who loves great traction, cushion and ventilation gave me some example of shoes that have that attribute……

      1. thanks and just a little question, what shoes got more air flow the Lebron X or Kd VI because they are tied up from the score of : 9 in ventilation…..

  8. Hi nightwing,
Thank you for the great review, at always.
Do you recommend this shoes for the PU court outdoor ?

    1. You know he’s going tell you, that the rubber is going to burn out quick right? Yep, I see it’s directed to NW, but really….if the last ones had soft rubber, an he states in the video that this one (high wear areas) is burning out, I guess I’m saying don’t hold your breathe on that answer.

    1. No problem sir! I too will be looking for outdoor shoes, about to move to Santa Cruz, hoping I can find some leagues, but there is indeed a lack of outdoor kicks that aren’t retro. The kobe line is a joke compared to the top tier kobe.

  9. If I have a history of injuries to the lower body, would the minimal cushioning on this shoe be good? Or should I go for something that has a bit more cushioning? Thanks and great review!

  10. I finally broke these bad boys in tonight. The support getting a 10/10 is spot on! The heel area where the stripes are made sure I didn’t overcompensate on a quick cut that I was making. I thought my ankle was about to get rolled by the sharp low angle I was taking, but the shoe locked me real tight. I am truly impressed with these and the cushion is legit too. I have to say that my knees were not killing me after landings and all the pounding tonight. These felt like they should be called Rose 4.75 and that isn’t a bad thing because I love the Rose 4, but the Quicks II feel slightly better to me. This shoe knocked the Kobe 9 out of my Top 3 rotation.

    (1)XX8 SE
    (2)Quicks II
    (3)CP3 VII

    1. Thanks a lot of posting that DS.

So you definitely think these have more cushioning than previous Puremotion 2.0 shoes?

      1. It’s probably about the same with the Rose 4, but certainly more than the OG Quicks. There is a crash pad in the heel similar to the Rose 4, but I’m not sure if it’s Adiprene + like it.

        1. appreciate you mentioning the knees, I have 1 bad knee and was skeptical about these because of the cushioning.

          1. I’m not sure how well the word moves around on the pricing, but Tre from Kick Genius just reviewed these and stated that they’re $65 on Adidas.com. Sure enough they are in the Dame P.E.

    1. Going off NW’s scorecards, these offer top notch support over the Hyperrevs, but the Hyperrevs offer more cushion and ventilation. I personally don’t want an all mesh shoe over $120, maybe on clearance.

  11. Nightwing, does techfit used on these shoes ever stretch? I got a perfect size in length but its narrow and my toes get blisters..

  12. Compared to the 773-2 and Crazyquick, I find them all very similar. The traction grinds down quickly. you can find the original quicks for a 3rd the price even on Adidas.com.

  13. Interesting to see this bumped to the top because I balled in them for 4 hours last night. Damn awesome shoe on the hardwood and still 2nd in my rotation!

  14. I’m seriously tempted to buy a pair. I can get them for around $60 shipped. I just wish that I could try them on (I haven’t seen them available at any stores. None). Also I play outdoors exclusively right now so that’s sort of a dealbreaker. But for $60 its really damn tempting.

      1. The problem I have is that I have a wide foot. I saw in the review that these run long. That’s another reason why I’m hesitant and would love to be able to try them on first. Although I think Adidas offers free returns so I might see.

        1. Ended up going with my true size because of my wide foot. We will see. For less than $57 shipped it was worth taking the chance. I went with the Wall colorway. I really like the Lillard also but I already have the Rose 4.5 with a similar colorway.

Ordered from adidas.com with an extra coupon.

          1. Could you tell me how it went with going true to size length/width wise? I’ve ordered a pair half size down(60 british pounds), and since I have a wide foot I am bit worried :b

  15. Great review thanx again for putting the work in again NW!
Could you tell me if the techfit felt like it did in the crazyquick 1 cause that was like the main reason I liked them so much.

  16. hello, i have a size 9.5 hyperrev and i am wide footed. If i want to get the CQ 2’s what size should i go with?
